Sir Richard Leese, the Leader of Manchester City Council, was the guest of honour last week as luxury apartment complex The Clockworks was officially opened.
The Manchester City Council leader cut the ribbon at the £14.2million development in Moss Side, which features 105 two-bedroom apartments.
Housing provider, One Manchester, have developed the Clockworks, named after local writer Anthony Burgess’ novel.
The opening event saw Sir Richard Leese, representatives from Homes England, local councillors, the Director of Residential Growth at Manchester City Council, Kevin Lowry, and partners from Plumlife and Vistry come together to hear more about the Clockworks, One Manchester’s ambition to bring affordable, high-quality homes to the local people of Moss Side, and the social value delivered as part of the project.
Sir Richard said:
The Clockworks is a shining example of what can be achieved when organisations collaborate and the result is fantastic.
This development has brought a fantastic development to Moss Side and has left a legacy in the opportunities it has created for the community.
It was a real pleasure to be asked to officially open The Clockworks and I’m sure the residents, and the wider community will get real benefit from this fantastic development.

Not only are these apartments, located just a few minutes outside the city centre, providing affordable homes for local people, but the construction project has supported local people into jobs and training and given local community projects the support they need.
