In our new live the Plumlife blog series, we’ll be providing you with useful tips and suggestions on how to turn your home into a space you love to live. The series will feature a hot interior design topic as well as a handy garden guide. We’ll be posting at the beginning of each week over the next five weeks.

For the first of our series, we’ve suggested ideas on how to transform any room and make a statement by decorating a feature wall.

Feature walls – they can be bold wall paper patterns to add personality and style to any room or one block colour painted walls, which can feel inviting and warm.

Whether you prefer floral wallpapers with bright colours or the sharp lines of geometric wallpaper or something more bespoke like illustrated wallpaper. Beautiful prints have an impactful effect on the décor of a room.

If you prefer the look of one block colour statement walls, you can go for soft and neutral colours, which give a calming and comforting feel, which can crate chilled out space to relax in. Or you can go for bold and dark colours, giving a dramatic statement. Dark colours look beautiful alongside wooden furniture.

Bring any of these looks together by complimenting colours with cushions, fabrics and other accessories.

We recommend researching styles and colours you like, use apps like ‘Pinterest’, ‘Houzz’ and ‘Clippings’ to search for inspiration, ideas, trends, colours and styles that both complement each other and will work with your taste and belongings. Paint manufacturers, fabric companies and wallpaper suppliers produce booklets and advice on current trends, colours and how to put colours together. For example, Dulux colour of the year is ‘Tranquil Dawn’ – a soft, neutral green, ideal for living rooms and kitchens. The Dulux website gives some great ideas on how to use colour.

Look at colour current trends online and social media, these influence types of furniture you can buy in high street shops. Then once you’ve compiled a list of favourites, create your own mood board for each room.

There’s plenty of options to give any room a fresh, new look whatever your taste. Look for inspiration from other interiors on social media, nature, fashion, cultures and art. There is no right and wrong in interior design; just create a space you feel comfortable in and most importantly, enjoy doing it!
